Hello jsfrerot,

Unfortunately, the document server still isn't able to save passwords in documents. We have plans of fixing the issue, but cannot tell you the exact release date.

I use the Desktop Linux version with "end to end encryption" enabled. I created a document with my Desktop version and uploaded it in my onlyoffice cloud account in the browser. But when I try to open the file in the browser, it asks me for a password. What password should I enter, so that I can open the document in the browser?

There is no way! This is the point of using "end to end encryption" option.

Thanks Maxim, few more questions:
1) does this mean that I can use the created document only with the Desktop Version of OnlyOffice?
2) Can I open the encrypted document with another client, like LibreOffice?
3) As the owner of my private key, can I generate the password needed to open the document?

Hello nikolayhg!

Yes. Security of the document is the main reason which leads to use Onlyoffice Desktop Editor.
2) Can I open the encrypted document with another client, like LibreOffice?
No, you cannot.
3) As the owner of my private key, can I generate the password needed to open the document?
As i know you cannot generate the password

Thank you for the answers, Maxim!

4) Is the password generated exclusively from information/data that only the user knows or has access to? (e.g. private key, hashes of the desired document, etc)

5) Is the source code for the generation of the password open source? And if yes, could you send me a link to it?

I do not know how the password is generated.
Is the source code for the generation of the password open source? And if yes, could you send me a link to it?
It is not open source code.
