nodeJS SSL cert issue: unable to open documents

Postby sophie_jane » Tue Jul 11, 2017 11:13 am

I started getting the following error when I try to open documents via ownCloud (running the ownCloud integration app and documentserver):
Code: Select all
[2017-07-11 06:13:18.680] [ERROR] nodeJS - { Error: Hostname/IP doesn't match certificate's altnames: "Host: localhost. is not in the cert's altnames: DNS:domain.co, DNS:www.domain.co"
    at Object.checkServerIdentity (tls.js:199:17)
    at TLSSocket.<anonymous> (_tls_wrap.js:1098:29)
    at emitNone (events.js:86:13)
    at TLSSocket.emit (events.js:185:7)
    at TLSSocket._finishInit (_tls_wrap.js:610:8)
    at TLSWrap.ssl.onhandshakedone (_tls_wrap.js:440:38)
message: 'Hostname/IP doesn\'t match certificate\'s altnames: "Host: localhost. is not in the cert\'s altnames: DNS:domain.co, DNS:www.domain.co"',
reason: 'Host: localhost. is not in the cert\'s altnames: DNS:domain.co, DNS:www.domain.co',
  host: 'localhost',

I'm guessing the issue began on 7/2 when I renewed the certificates for domain.co. Aside from being renewed, the certs are the same as the previous certs. I'm not sure why I'm getting this error now (perhaps nodeJS updated recently). I did a Google search on the error and got a bunch of hits related to nodeJS. Any thoughts on a way to fix this?

Hello sophie_jane
Maybe it should better to use domain name of document server instead of localhost.
