Document Server corrupts .odt-files

Postby simsala » Mon May 15, 2017 10:16 pm

I use the DocumentServer with Seafile and I noticed after editing .odt-files it's not possible to open them again with LibreOffice. Trying to open shows a error message from LibreOffice that the file is corrupt and therefore cannot be opened. But with OnlyOffice it's still possible to open the file.

.docx-files are working without problems.

Not sure if this is a OnlyOffice bug or a Seafile one?
Can someone please test this behavior and confirm or disprove?
Thanks

Hello simsala!
We need examples to test.
Please attach to your post original file and file after editing in OnlyOffice which you cannot open in Libre.
Also specify please Onlyoffice installation and version.

Hi Maxim,

thanks for your reply! I attached the examples. I created a .odt-file with LibreOffice Version 5.3.0.3 with the content: "This is just a testdocument." I did a copy of it and named the copy "OnlyOffice-Test_created_with_LibreOffice.odt". Then I edited the original file with OnlyOffice (added a linebreak and then removed it again, so the content should be the same). I named this file "OnlyOffice-Test_edited_with_OnlyOffice.odt"

Installed OnlyOffice document server Version: 4.3.3-4

No problem here. I run Seafile CE 6.0.9 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and connect OnlyOffice (OO) to it via WebDAV. I run the current Docker version of OnlyOffice CE using the same version of Ubuntu (different box).

I created an ODT file using LibreOffice 5.3.3.2/Mac, saved it to a Seafile folder on my system and allowed it to sync to the server.

I logged into OnlyOffice and opened the document normally, OnlyOffice prompting me to convert/duplicate the file to DOCX. The conversion succeeded.

I opened the new DOCX file in OO and added some text to it, allowing it to be saved by OO back to Seafile.

I looked to see if it appeared back in Seafile and it was there immediately. I was able to open the DOCX file in Word/Mac with no errors or warnings. There was only a minor issue with a font substitution in the DOCX file that I should have expected.

The original ODT file still opens and works fine.

If you want to upload a test file I will be happy to test it for you.

@TMHBOFH Yes, I am running the current release version of Seafile CE 6.0.9. I have plans to upgrade the server to 6.1 once it is out of beta. I will be happy to continue testing once the upgrade is released, which should be sooner than later if things go as they have in the past.

For the present I am still not seeing any problem with .odt files under Seafile CE and OnlyOffice. I just re-ran the tests using the files provided. I do see one damaged file and one good one. Using the good file I am able to open it in OO, make additions, save it, sync it, and open it again outside OO with both Word and LibreOffice and in either format. So far no trip-ups.

I am certainly no expert here but has anyone posted a question at Seafile Community Forum (https://forum.seafile.com/)? I'd like to know what Seafile Development has to say about this.

Hello simsala!
We tried to reproduce the issue but have no luck.
We have the same test results as Merc has. We suppose that file corrupting has occurred not on our side.
Unfortunately we cannot say what is the reason of that behavior
