Document Server on RHEL/CentOS

Hi,

I have some customers interested on using Document Server in it's environment. They are mainly using RedHat Enterprise Linux servers because support, patches, and knowledge of internal people.
Sometimes they can use CentOS because it is very close to RHEL.

I know your guide are based on Debian related distros, but we are talking of an opensource project so I suppose it can be installed in other distros. As you know RedHat is very popular in Enterprise environments.

Trying to install DocumentServer I've found some elements that are only provided in binary form and requires librery available only in the very last Debian OS release.
I'm talking about:
  • Tools/Bin/AllFontsGen
  • ServerComponents/Bin/libdoctrenderer.so
  • ServerComponents/Bin/x2f
Here are an example of dependency
Code: Select all
 $ ldd AllFontsGen
./AllFontsGen: /lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `CXXABI_1.3.8' not found (required by ./AllFontsGen)
./AllFontsGen: /lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.20' not found (required by ./AllFontsGen)
        linux-vdso.so.1 =>  (0x00007ffd4ff73000)
        libstdc++.so.6 => /lib64/libstdc++.so.6 (0x00007f6522f6b000)
        libm.so.6 => /lib64/libm.so.6 (0x00007f6522c68000)
        libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib64/libgcc_s.so.1 (0x00007f6522a52000)
        libpthread.so.0 => /lib64/libpthread.so.0 (0x00007f6522836000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib64/libc.so.6 (0x00007f6522474000)
        /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x00007f652327b000)

Googling I've discovered that the required elements are available on GCC 5.* while the last RHEL 7.* has GCC 4.8.

Also I've noticed that in the previous version of Document Servser (named Online Editors) you provide the source code of these elements (AllFontsGen for sure).

Could you please provide the source again (to allow me to build it) or build the binary using library available on RHEL?

I will be very happy to support you in this task or help you to provide a RHEL/CentOS compatible version.

Unfortunately, we do not provide customization services at the moment. We would recommend using the existing source code for such purpose.

I don't want to customize it, I want only to be able to rebuild it using gcc 4.8 to be able to install and use and promote your product on CentOS and RHEL.
There are no source available for that binaries. Maybe it is available in a different repository?

Actually I have rebuilded GCC 5.1 from source and installed in /usr/local leaving default packages untouched.

But some RHEL customers doesn't like this action because they fear it can introduce instability or other things not covered by RedHat Support System.

At the same time they will not switch to other distribution.

The AllFontsGen can be builded under gcc-4.8, but another component (x2t) requires gcc-4.9 components (libstdc++6) and higher for service properly working, it is the requirement of V8.
