How do I install Document Server on Debian 8.7.x?

Postby quax » Sat May 06, 2017 1:44 pm

As the title say!

I running Debian 8.7.x as Minimal Server, with ISPConfig 3.1 and OwnCloud 9 installed. I would like to have OnlyOffice Document Server running for to be able to edit and use huge Excel Worksheets, which containing a lot of links.

The System Requirement should be ok with Quad Core, 8 GB RAM, a lot HDD space. The Server setup is with Apache2, MariaDB/MySQL, PHP 5.x and more, but NGINX!

What I need is simply a detailed tutorial for to install Only Office Document Server and the Addon for OwnCloud.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the reply Maxim.

Now, in that tutorial (which is based on UBUNTU) I've to change something:
Code: Select all
Install OnlyOffice document server

Add OnlyOffice repository with the following command.

echo "deb http://download.onlyoffice.com/repo/debian squeeze main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/onlyoffice.list
Import OnlyOffice public key.

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys CB2DE8E5
Update local package index and install OnlyOffice document server. Note that Nginx will be installed as the web server so you might need to stop Apache if it’s running.

sudo apt update

sudo apt install onlyoffice-documentserver
During the installation process, you will be asked to enter PostgreSQL password for onlyoffice. Enter “onlyoffice” (without double quotes).

1.: The Debian version I use is 8.7.x "Jessie", would it be just OK if I change "deb http://download.onlyoffice.com/repo/debian squeeze main" to "deb http://download.onlyoffice.com/repo/debian jessie main"? Or what would be correct?
2.: Do I need to change the content in this line: "sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys CB2DE8E5" for Debian?
3.: Whats about NGINX? I use Debian with Apache2 and NGINX isn't installed! Do I need to install NGINX upfront too? If so, what's the commands to use?

Thanks for your advice and help.

Slowly I get a bit further: Realize, I could not install OO/Document Server directly on Debian 8.7.x Server with already installed Apache2 etc., I would need to use Docker for to bypass that problem.

Now, where is a detailed Tutorial for to install using Docker on Debian 8.7.x Minimal Server? Looked for such, but didn't found! I already had damaged 1 Debian Server with that install and don't want to do again!

Could someone please help with that procedure?

Thanks a lot and best regards

Hello Maxim, thanks for the infos. After I'm back to my office, I'll take a closer look at it and may directly start with the install procedure. Will let you know the outcome later on.

OK Maxim, now I need some more pieces of information because I will start installing Docker and Document Server ASAP. Had to do a clean new install of Debian 8.7.1 Minimal Server with ISPConfig 3.1 as cPanel on it. OwnCloud is also installed now. This ist strictly a Test Server for to test that Document Server could do for us what we want. The final Install will be on a Production Server which is already running. Both Servers are on the same level with the same apps.

Now the first question: Docker 1.10 (or later) is a 3.party Apps, if I understand correctly?! Download from where the sufficient version? And how to install?

Thanks for any advice and info!
